About the event
Date will be announced in the future!
Meet at Old Capitol in Corydon from where we will carpool to River Front Park in Brandenburg. There we will discuss John H. Morgan's 1863 Raid to that point, including Thomas Hines' recon into Indiana. Then we will talk about the river crossing at Brandenburg and the Union response. From there we will drive to the Old Mount Zion Cemetery to visit the grave of an Indiana Legion member killed during the crossing. We will then head to Morvin’s Landing for a view of Brandenburg from the Indiana shore and dive a bit more into the Indiana Legion. We will then follow Duke's Brigade to Frakes’ Mill and talk about the mills that were burned and one that wasn't. From there we'll head to Jordan Cemetery and talk about civilian deaths on the raid. Next stop is the Battle of Corydon Park where we will discuss the battle. From here we will return to the Old Capitol. A walk to Cedar Hill Cemetery will reveal Confederate burials and the aftermath.
Lunch for those not needing to hit the road follows.
No cost for the tour, but we will accept donations that will be given to the entity that manages the Battle of Corydon Park.
