About the event

Greg Grant, local Chattanooga resident and expert, will lead us on this event.  This is a one-way 3-mile easy walk on a paved hiking/biking surface that is part of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway, a City of Chattanooga park. The walk passes Billy Goat Hill.  There is a battle at present day Sterchi Farms between Confederate Forces under Marcus Wright and Giles Smith’s Brigade which results in Smith’s wounding.  Bathrooms at two points on the walk.  Walk can be extended about a half mile to view two original Western and Atlantic RR crossings over South Chickamauga Creek.

Meeting place.  Riverpoint Trailhead on the Tennessee River Park.

Directions to Riverpoint from I-75.

Take TN 153 North (Chickamauga Dam/Chattanooga Airport).  Take Exit 6, Amnicola Highway and turn left (south). If you go across Chickamauga Dam, you have gone too far.  Drive 2.7 miles on Amnicola Highway.  You will pass underneath a large overpass (TN 319) and turn right at the next light. The turn is onto Lost Mound Drive.  After the right turn, immediately turn left into the TN River Park access.  There is a large amount of parking on the left along with bathroom facilities.
